If you enjoy or appreciate
the Internet for anything other than the pure content, you
could have a future in web design or web development. Taking
a degree would give you the chance to learn the myriad ways
in which you can harness technology to implement new and interesting
design ideas. You would develop creative skills applicable
to the structures and networks that are an integral part of
the fabric of the web. In addition to technical skills, you
would learn how to communicate your client’s information
and ideas in the most effective possible ways. At the same
time you would be developing your own style of design, giving
you the basis of a unique portfolio of skills, creative talent
and knowledge that you can offer your clients as an answer
to their web-design challenges.
After you graduate, you can look forward to a long, satisfying
and rewarding career. If you join a Design House or go and
work in an in-house design department, you will become one
of a team, taking a role as designer, information architect,
production manager or web-master. The alternative could be
to become self-employed, working on a consultancy basis for
a series of different clients, designing sites from the beginning
and maintaining them over a period of time, either by yourself
or on a networking basis. Salary levels are very good, as
much as $100,000 for talented experienced practitioners.
You will be a member of an elite band of people who are contributing
to the development of a new and exciting phenomenon; the future
of the Internet. You will have the knowledge and ability to
influence its development in ways that we cannot even imagine
at the moment. Opportunities will be endless, and with the
right background and education you will be perfectly positioned
to take the best advantage of them.
